As Common Directs Manager on the Port Arthur LNG (PALNG) Project, executed by Bechtel in Texas, USA, the role is critical to managing the successful execution of shared construction disciplines that span both ISBL (Inside Battery Limits) and OSBL (Outside Battery Limits) zones. This includes oversight and coordination of key enabling scopes such as scaffolding, cranes and rigging, coatings, insulation, fireproofing, hydro vacuum excavation coordination, pipe testing coordination, road closure permits, and coordination across the entire LNG plant construction.
The role demands strong leadership, disciplined execution, and adherence to safety, quality, cost, and schedule objectives.
- Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of common direct scopes across ISBL and OSBL boundaries.
- Ensure compliance with Bechtel's safety, quality, and environmental expectations, as well as all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Manage daily interfaces between engineering, field construction, project controls, and a wide range of construction work fronts site-wide.
- Drive progress and resource alignment for common directs to meet project milestones and critical path activities.
- Monitor and evaluate construction performance, ensuring execution in accordance with scope, contract terms, and project KPIs.
- Provide proactive leadership in resolving cross‑disciplinary conflicts, interface issues, and logistical constraints.
- Support accurate progress reporting, field productivity analysis, and interface with project controls for planning and forecasting.
- Promote a culture of safety, operational excellence, and accountability throughout all construction phases.
- Requires a bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 10‑13 years of relevant experience, or 14‑17 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
- Knowledge and demonstrated competency in all phases of construction operations related to common direct activities and jobsite management.
- Knowledge and demonstrated competency in subcontract management.
- Knowledge and demonstrated competency in managing budgets and construction equipment.
- Knowledge of Bechtel's Destination Zero Philosophy.
- Knowledge of the Project ES&H Handbook, the Supervisors ES&H Manual, the Project Safety Management Plan, and the Bechtel Core Processes.
- Knowledge of the Project Construction Environmental Control Plan.
Knowledge is normally acquired through:
- A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, or
- Specialized courses in construction management, and/or
- Prior work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge described above.
