Job Summary
The Part-time Tutor/Testing Assistant has responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, assisting students to understand different subjects and addressing, supporting, and encouraging students in the learning process. The Part-time Tutor/Testing Assistant will also review materials used in classes, explain various topics, and address all doubts and questions of students regarding that topic. The Part-time Tutor/Testing Assistant will also read to students for testing depending on the student's accommodations.
This is a non-exempt position that reports to LSCPA's Student Success Center.
Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring for students with emphasis on study strategies; consults with individual students to identify their needs in a variety of academic subjects
- Provide instructional assistance in the computer lab
- Monitor work and attendance and alert faculty and staff to any problem or special information about a student
- Administer Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Pre-assessment Activities and TSI Assessment Test and analyze diagnostic results to help determine remediation options for students
- Administer HESI exams
- Keep records of tutorials, as requested the Testing & Student Success Center Coordinator
- Participate in professional development activities
- Assist with duties in the front desk for example, check in students for testing, answering phone calls, scheduling tests, assist students and staff with any inquires
- Assist the Testing & Student Success Center Coordinator in training new student workers
- Other related duties, as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Demonstrated proficiency, through assessment, in specific tutoring subject areas such as reading, writing, and mathematics instruction that lead to college readiness
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong decision-making skills
- Desire to assist students with special needs in a learning environment
- Ability to adapt instructional techniques to meet diverse learning needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Teaching experience
- Associate's degree
