We’re seeking a strategic, results-driven Director of Maintenance to lead fleet operations for a dynamic, multi-service transportation provider. In this critical leadership role, you'll champion safety, reliability, and performance across our fleet—ensuring the smooth delivery of essential transportation services that communities count on daily.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the General Manager, the Director of Maintenance oversees all aspects of fleet maintenance across multiple service lines and locations. You’ll lead a skilled team of shop managers, technicians, and support staff, fostering a culture rooted in safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
We're looking for a hands-on, analytical leader with deep expertise in fleet management and a passion for team development—someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and drives operational efficiency.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership & Operations
- Oversee the maintenance function, including fleet planning, staffing, training, and regulatory compliance.
- Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Align maintenance initiatives with broader organizational goals through collaboration with executive leadership.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance and inspection programs to optimize fleet uptime and performance.
- Monitor and manage out-of-service vehicles, ensuring timely diagnostics, repairs, and return to service.
- Ensure thorough documentation and efficient workflows through fleet management systems (e.g., RTA, Coach Manager).
- Standardize diagnostics, repairs, inspections, and parts inventory procedures across locations.
- Lead maintenance budgeting, forecasting, and cost-control efforts.
- Identify savings opportunities, improve vendor relationships, and streamline operational practices.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure full compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of shops, fleets, and safety processes.
- Lead or support investigations into equipment failures or incidents, implementing corrective measures as needed.
- Inspire and manage a diverse team of technicians and shop personnel across multiple sites.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and skills development.
- Foster a collaborative, growth-oriented environment where people thrive and succeed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years of progressive experience in diesel mechanics or fleet maintenance, with 2+ years in a leadership capacity.
- Technical certification or training in diagnostics, diesel repair, or vehicle maintenance preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of DOT/FMSCA regulations and fleet management tools.
- Proven experience managing budgets and vendor contracts.
- Strong decision-making, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fleet management platforms.
- Valid Class C license required;
Class A/B with passenger and air brake endorsements preferred (or willingness to obtain). - Must meet DOT safety-sensitive role requirements, including drug/alcohol testing and background screening.
