Position Summary
Manage and oversee the daily operations of a power plant within area of responsibility.
Job Duties / Responsibilities- Foster the importance of a safety-oriented culture.
- Champion strategic vision and direction of the organization.
- Meet system load requirements and monitor operations for efficiency and safety, ensuring all applicable regulatory requirements are followed.
- Oversee, lead and direct plant shift staff, including operations and maintenance.
- Use extensive experience and judgment to make appropriate decisions.
- Be an active participant in safety culture; lead the team by example, and coach, mentor and develop direct reports to exceed individual and plant goals.
- Act as a change agent for the plant with daily initiatives to improve morale and staff engagement.
- Support plant efforts to meet stakeholder expectations, fostering an inclusive and diverse environment.
- Provide direct management of the Entergy Safety Process, ensuring compliance with corporate safety standards and approved practices for the protection of all personnel. Ensure safe isolation/lock‑out and restoration of site equipment.
- Continuously monitor boilers, turbine/generators and auxiliary equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Manage and support Entergy’s core processes and initiatives, including Plant Operations Excellence, Commercial Commitment to Excellence, NERC Standard Compliance, Unit Reliability, Surveillance Testing, Operations Transaction Systems, Utility Group Safety Process, Operations Information Systems, Operator Skills Development Process, Environmental Compliance and the Automated Tagging System.
- Be the voice of the plant for the department.
- Hire and train a high‑performing team of Production Technicians for safe and reliable operations during commissioning and at commercial operation dates.
- Build, own and maintain all processes/programs associated with a newly designed and constructed Combined‑Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant, designing, developing, implementing and continually evaluating programs using metrics and key results.
- Lead and support an operations team that participates in pre‑commercial commissioning activities, engages with engineering, procurement and construction partners to ensure highest standards, and assumes control/ownership at the commercial operations milestone date.
- Utilize prior lessons learned and site pre‑commissioning lessons to refine and improve operating procedures, training plans, unit operating and bid parameters, alarm management, surveillance testing, work management strategies and all operations/maintenance fundamentals.
- Network with EPC partners and the project team to meet commissioning/testing schedules and resource needs.
- Provide leadership and technical direction for unit troubleshooting and liaise with vendors, OEMs and internal/external subject‑matter experts to improve team and site performance.
- Ensure all site commissioning and testing reports and turnover packages are received and stored in accordance with the records management policy.
- Project manage assigned projects, including scope development, execution, budget estimates, contractor oversight, cost tracking/reporting and project close‑out.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Technology‑specific or business‑related degree preferred or equivalent experience.
- Three to five years relevant industrial professional experience in maintenance, operations or project work.
- 8-10 years of plant operations/power boiler experience, 3‑5 years as a control board operator.
- In‑depth knowledge of power plant systems, unit operating practices, unit cycle chemistry, requirements and corrective actions at an Operating Technician Proficiency level.
- Position designated as a safety‑sensitive role, subject to mandatory pre‑employment and random drug testing.
As a provider of essential services, employees must be available to work additional hours, in alternate locations, and/or perform additional duties during storms, outages, emergencies, or other situations as deemed necessary by the company. Exempt employees may not be paid overtime for such duties.
