Machinist

Overview

As a Machinist, you will operate a variety of shop equipment with a primary focus on Vertical Turning Lathes (VTL) — including conventional lathes, milling machines, horizontal mills, drills, borers, and grinders.

• Calculate dimensions & tolerances using mathematics and instruments.
• Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines.
• Operate various types of machine tools to perform progressive machining.
• Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
• Detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls as necessary.
• Perform quality assurance inspections, document required repairs, and make minor repairs.
• Maintain a log of time spent on jobs.
• Perform general housekeeping to maintain a clean work area and shop.
• Read and use machinist scales and indicators.
• Follow and adhere to all safety rules and regulations; wear appropriate PPE.
• Follow and adhere to all quality protocols.
• Operate multiple machines independently without assistance or training.
• Effectively train other Machinist Apprentice or Machinist II employees on various machines.
• Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
• Work overtime as needed.

• High School Diploma/GED and/or equivalent work experience.
• Manufacturing or shop experience (8–10 years).
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
• Read and write English; demonstrated command of basic math skills; read and interpret measuring devices and drawings.
• Convert fractions to decimals; read machinist scales.
• Ability to communicate clearly and work well with a team.
• Strong work ethic and initiative.
• Technical skill and competence.
