Job Summary
The Repair Fitter will perform duties in a safe manner, including various barge repairs, heating, and cutting as determined from inspections. The role requires a safety‑mindful approach, ensuring all employees comply with safety rules, procedures, and regulations.
Responsibilities- Perform barge repairs, heating, and cutting determined by inspections.
- Ensure compliance with all safety rules, procedures, and regulations.
- Fit and fabricate materials for barges or special projects.
- Complete tasks within specified time frames.
- Assist supervisors or leadmen in training and directing assigned subordinates.
- Remove and fit parts according to regulations and specifications.
- Instruct others in welding techniques and safety.
- Repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes.
- Preheat work pieces with hand torch.
- Position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in jig or fixture.
- Safely use torch for cutting metal.
- Understand and comply with all safety regulations.
- Qualified as a fitter per VLS procedures or capable of becoming qualified soon.
- Proficiency in welding, cutting, and metal fabrication.
- Strong safety awareness and adherence to shop safety standards.
- Effective communication skills and ability to train and mentor others.
