What We Are Looking For
The maintenance technician is responsible for overall installation, maintenance, diagnosis and repair of equipment/instrumentation related to the unloading, loading, transfer and storage of bulk materials. The maintenance technician will perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on equipment to maximize safe and productive operations.
What You Will Do- Diagnose problems and maintain a variety of material bulk handling equipment.
- Assist and work with the Technician to diagnose and repair electrical control functions, system logic and mechanical failure issues involving conveyor operation.
- Assist in the transportation and movement of mechanical bulk handling equipment.
- Assemble and install equipment such as drive motors, conveyors, and pulley assemblies.
- Perform certified stick welding and/or cutting torch operations as needed.
- Align machines and equipment for proper operation.
- Assemble machines and bolts, welds, rivets, or otherwise fasten them to foundation or other structures.
- Repair and lubricate material bulk handling machines and equipment.
- Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and safety devices on equipment, and make adjustments.
- Operate a variety of equipment such as cutting torch, welder, forklift, hand tools and electric meters.
- Lubricate moving parts, examine and operate repaired equipment to verify equipment conformance to specifications.
- Perform activities of co‑workers as directed.
- Take direction and report to direct supervisor (Terminal Maintenance Supervisor). As a member of the general maintenance crew, perform duties pertaining to the maintenance crew; grease/lubricating bearings, rollers, ship loader, belts, O/H crane bucket, crane cable repairs, etc.
- Vessel loading operations are a critical part of our operations at this terminal and will be required to assist in such operations.
- Willingly train and operate all terminal equipment and perform the duties and responsibilities of the terminal’s Maintenance positions such as Skid Steers, Excavator, Telehandler, Man Lift and Ship Loading Operations for progression.
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
- 1 – 3 years of previous successful industrial maintenance experience.
- Valid motor vehicle operator's license with a satisfactory driving record; willingness to use personal or company vehicle during employment.
- Requirements to enter foreign trade zones, including background checks by the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security, and a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).
- Ability to pass a Drug and Alcohol test and a Hair follicle test.
- Safety training/certification required by customers and Kinder Morgan at all locations.
- Completion of DISA/ISTC background check for entry into refinery.
- Flexibility to work at different locations when needed.
- Effective verbal communication skills.
- Shift work schedule as assigned, with overtime and little to no notice during the week, weekends, holidays, etc.; may include rotating day/night shifts.
- Responsibility for on‑call schedule and response to scheduled emergency call‑outs.
- Regular attendance required to perform essential duties.
- Perform housekeeping and general maintenance as required.
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently.
- Use proper Personal Protective Equipment and report damaged equipment or unsafe conditions to the Terminal Supervisor.
- Self‑motivated and self‑starter.
- Apply common sense to carry out instructions.
- 2 – 5 years of experience with Heavy Equipment, Conveying Equipment and material handling systems.
- Requirements to enter foreign trade zones; TWIC certification.
- Drug and Alcohol test and Hair follicle test pass.
- Self‑starter attitude.
- Safety training/certification required by customers and Kinder Morgan at all locations.
- Understand and comply with customer and Kinder Morgan rules and policies.
- Willingness and ability to work as part of a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required schedules, focus on details, and follow work rules.
- Physically able to handle large tools, climb on and off equipment, ascend and descend ladders, and not afraid of heights.
