Key Responsibilities
- Implement, maintain, and enforce security policies, procedures, and system access controls in alignment with industry best practices.
- Monitor and analyze server logs, firewall logs, intrusion detection systems, and network traffic for suspicious activity; investigate and resolve issues as needed.
- Conduct user activity audits, perform virus scans, and respond to security breaches in a timely and effective manner.
- Assist in the design and implementation of disaster recovery plans for systems, networks, databases, and applications.
- Recommend, schedule, and apply security patches, system fixes, and recovery procedures following security incidents.
- Evaluate and recommend security reconfigurations; implement approved changes.
- Research emerging cybersecurity technologies, tools, and standards to support ongoing improvements.
- Recommend and coordinate security upgrades, enhancements, and third‑party maintenance activities.
- Deploy, administer, and maintain security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and antivirus software.
- Manage database security and ensure the protection of data transferred both internally and externally.
- Administer user accounts, permissions, and access rights; generate reports on system activity and security audits.
- Ensure the security of local area networks, the County website, intranet, and email systems.
- Apply patches, updates, and remediation actions based on vulnerability and penetration testing results.
- Provide input on the development and continuous improvement of security policies and procedures.
- Stay current with emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security technologies; test and implement updates as needed.
- Participate in an on‑call rotation to support critical system needs.
- Travel to County facilities as required to support operations.
- Deliver exceptional customer service through technical support, problem‑solving, and effective communication.
An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience:
- Associate’s degree
- Preferred:
- Information Technology
- Network Administration
- Computer Sciences
- Preferred:
- Four (4) years of experience in information technology or IT security administration
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Preferred:
- Network+
- Security+
- Knowledge of departmental policies, plans, and procedures.
- Knowledge of modern office practices, plans, and procedures.
- Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other job‑related computer programs and software applications.
- Firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti‑virus software, data encryption, and other industry‑standard techniques and practices.
- Applicable practices and laws relating to data privacy and protection.
- Network, PC, and platform operating systems.
- Current systems software, protocols, and standards.
- TCP/IP and network administration/protocols.
- Hands‑on experience with devices such as hubs, switches, and routers.
- Strong organizational, analytical and research skills.
- Effective communication, both orally and in writing.
- Prioritizing and organizing work.
- Highly self‑motivated with close attention to detail.
- Working with various scripting technologies.
- Judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting department rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Problem‑solving with resourcefulness and tact.
- Determining priorities and meeting deadlines and objectives.
- Providing internal/external guidance and customer assistance via all forms of communication.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Author reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with managers, service providers, other employees, and the general public.
Stooping, walking, sitting, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception. Occasional lifting over 50 pounds and frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds.
