What to Expect in This RoleThis position requires knowledge of departmental policies and procedures, modern office practices, and job‑related computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The role also calls for an understanding of standard methods, tools, materials, and safety practices related to the assigned trade areas. Successful candidates must be skilled in using and maintaining hand and power tools, operating office equipment, communicating effectively both verbally and in writing, and organizing and prioritizing work.
The ability to follow oral and written instructions, work collaboratively in a team environment, perform heavy manual labor, and provide high‑quality customer assistance is essential. Additionally, the role requires proficiency in computer‑based tasks such as data entry and document preparation, the ability to prepare reports and business correspondence, and the capacity to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, service providers, and the public.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year of experience in general maintenance and repair tasks or as a helper or as handyman in at least one of the major trades.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Depending on position assignment… if assigned to work within the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office/Justice Center/Jail additional background checks will be required:
- Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS).
- FALCON Integrated Criminal History System.
Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, climbing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception. Frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENTWork is exposed to one or more disagreeable conditions (i.e., irate customers, outdoors weather conditions, excessive noise, extreme heat, odors, or dust).
RISK/SAFETY CONDITIONSThe position requires moderate exposure or risk to physical health and/or physical safety (e.g., exposure to environmentally hazardous material, heavy equipment, assault and battery, communicable disease, etc.).
