HVAC Technician (Commercial & Industrial) British Columbia (Unionized Position)

Position Summary

The HVAC Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, commissioning, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems in commercial and industrial environments.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with project teams, clients, and other trades while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and industry best practices.

This is a unionized position. Wages, benefits, and working conditions are governed by the applicable British Columbia union collective agreement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC and refrigeration systems in commercial and industrial facilities.
  • Work on a variety of equipment including:
    • Rooftop Units (RTUs)
    • Chillers
    • Heat Pumps
    • Air Handling Units (AHUs)
    • Boilers
    • Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF/VRV) systems
    • Ventilation and exhaust systems
    • Refrigeration equipment and associated controls
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, piping diagrams, electrical schematics, and control drawings.
  • Perform equipment start-ups, commissioning, testing, balancing, and system optimization.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, airflow, and control system issues.
  • Identify refrigerant leaks and perform repairs in accordance with environmental regulations.
  • Install and maintain HVAC control systems, thermostats, sensors, and safety devices.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork, piping, supports, and associated system components.
  • Complete preventive and predictive maintenance activities to maximize equipment performance and reliability.
  • Maintain accurate service reports, inspection records, and maintenance documentation.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable building codes, safety regulations, manufacturer specifications, and company standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with project managers, site supervisors, subcontractors, and customers.
  • Promote and uphold Seguin Morris' commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications & Experience Required
  • Valid HVAC/Refrigeration Journeyperson Certification or equivalent recognized trade qualification.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience working as an HVAC Technician in commercial and/or industrial environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Solid understanding of refrigeration cycles, HVAC controls, electrical systems, and mechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of applicable British Columbia codes, regulations, and safety requirements.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
Assets
  • Experience with VRF/VRV systems , including manufacturers such as Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Samsung, LG, or Fujitsu .
  • Gas Fitter certification.
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and controls.
  • Refrigerant handling certification.
  • Experience working on large commercial, institutional, manufacturing, or industrial projects.
  • Fall Protection, Elevated Work Platform, First Aid, or other relevant safety certifications.
