About the Role

Our client is seeking an accomplished Soil Scientist with a focus on Environmental Management to join their team in Port Elizabeth. This role is essential for assessing soil health, developing strategies for sustainable land use, and managing soil-related environmental impacts. You will be involved in soil surveying, analysis, remediation planning, and advising on best practices for conservation and agricultural productivity. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated scientist to contribute to environmental stewardship and sustainable development within the Eastern Cape region, working on diverse projects ranging from agricultural sustainability to land rehabilitation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct detailed soil characterization, mapping, and analysis, including physical, chemical, and biological properties.
  • Assess soil contamination and develop effective remediation strategies in compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Develop and implement soil conservation plans to prevent erosion, improve water retention, and maintain soil fertility.
  • Provide expert advice on sustainable land management practices for agriculture, forestry, and urban development.
  • Monitor the impact of land use practices on soil health and the broader environment.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports, environmental impact assessments, and management plans.
Requirements
  • A Master's degree or Ph.D. in Soil Science, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in soil science, with a strong emphasis on environmental applications.
  • Proficiency in soil sampling techniques, laboratory analysis, and interpretation of results.
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation and best practices related to soil and land management.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for soil mapping and analysis is advantageous.
