Mining Environmental Scientist

Our client is seeking a dedicated Mining Environmental Scientist to join their team in Port Elizabeth. This role is essential for ensuring that all mining operations comply with environmental regulations and sustainable practices. You will be responsible for conducting environmental impact assessments, monitoring environmental performance, developing mitigation strategies, and ensuring the responsible management of waste, water, and land resources throughout the mining lifecycle.

• Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and audits for new and existing mining projects.
• Develop and implement environmental management plans (EMPs) to minimize operational impact.
• Monitor environmental parameters such as water quality, air emissions, and biodiversity.
• Manage waste disposal, rehabilitation, and mine closure activities in an environmentally sound manner.
• Ensure compliance with national and local environmental legislation and permitting requirements.
• Advise project teams on environmental best practices and mitigation strategies.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental management, with a focus on the mining or heavy industry sector.
• In-depth knowledge of South African environmental legislation and regulations pertinent to mining.
• Experience with environmental monitoring techniques and data analysis.
• Strong report writing and communication skills, with the ability to liaise with regulatory bodies.
• Proficiency in environmental modeling software is an advantage.
