Duties
* You will serve as the Museum Curator at the U.S. Navy Seabee Museum located at Naval Base Ventura County. Port Hueneme, CA.
* You will provide overall management and direction to the museum collections including the acquisition and display of objects associated with significant events, important developments, and notable achievements of the Navy.
* You will conduct research which encompasses the history, heritage, and operations of the U.S. Navy Seabees and the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps.
* You will write articles; present to audiences; and respond to questions from Navy officials, scholars, and other members of the public on difficult or specialized aspects of naval history and items in the collection.
* You will identify, acquire, and document current Navy equipment and operations which have potential historical significance by virtue of technological innovation, widespread application, or connection with an event or individual.
* You will coordinate all required inventories of the artifact collection, prepare reports, and insure updates in the Department of the Navy Heritage Asset Management Database are properly executed. Requirements Conditions of employment

* Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

* You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. Qualifications In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of Museum Curator specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
* Managing and maintaining artifacts in a museum collection, to include documenting, cataloging artifacts, and deaccessioning;
* Utilizing comprehensive methodologies to gather and analyze historical context and content to reconnect artifact provenance in response to various research inquiries from official and private patrons;
* Implementing the development of exhibit plans, to include selecting artifacts, writing copy, developing graphics, and approving designs;
* Communicating in both written and oral form to effectively present information related to staff training as well as collaboration with employees, volunteers, interns, and the public;
* Developing and implementing long-range plans to gain comprehensive intellectual and physical control over a collection. This includes reconnecting provenance and legacy accession information, creating and updating catalog records, identifying conservation issues, and recommending items for deaccession ; and
* Utlilizing Microsoft 365, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, or equivalent programs. Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website:
