Position: Engineering Technician III (Seaborne) with Security Clearance

Overview

Position Type:
Full-time, Non-exempt

Work Location:

Naval Base Ventura County, Port Hueneme, CA
Pay: $33.26/hr plus $7.20/hr Health and Wellness Benefit through Union Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. (SA-TECH)

Responsibilities
  • Apply technical knowledge to perform tasks on various marine engines and subsystems of seaborne target systems (QST A/B/I, FACT, HSMST, SDST).
  • Assist higher-level technicians with building or replacing seaborne target components, marine engines, troubleshooting systems, and repairing simple machinery using tools and test equipment.
  • Follow preventative maintenance programs using service manuals and schematic charts for marine engines and related equipment.
  • Operate and be qualified (technically and medically) in forklift, overhead crane, marine travel lift, and other target‑specific equipment.
  • Maintain equipment logs, maintenance action forms, and work‑time tracking sheets.
  • Qualify for and maintain Portable Command & Control Unit (PCCU) Remote Control Operator (RCO) certification if required.
  • Train and qualify as a vessel operator for HSMST, QST A/B/I, FACT, and SDST Targets if required.
  • Follow OSHA and Navy‑mandated safety guidelines, including use of safety glasses, respirators, hearing protection, and steel‑toe shoes.
Work Conditions
  • Outdoor duties on shore and afloat on even or uneven surfaces; conditions may be dry or wet.
  • Ability to work in seaborne environments with shift work at remote locations, including overnight assignments.
  • Work includes sitting, standing, walking, lifting, and reaching; capable of lifting 50–100 lbs. with assistance.
  • Clean and organized work area required.
  • Work schedule:

    9/80 (Mon–Thu 9 hrs, alternating Fridays 8 hrs on/8 hrs off).
  • Overtime required; routine travel to NAWCWD Port Hueneme.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; technical school or specialized training preferred.
  • 2–4 years of experience in related functions may replace education.
  • Basic computer, networking, and MS Office skills.
  • Team‑oriented, works well with others.
  • Knowledgeable in testing mechanical systems and components per technical manuals.
  • Safe use of hand tools, power tools, and test equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and technical data to repair/replac malfunctioning components.
  • Current CA Driver’s License; must be insured under company vehicle insurance while driving work vehicles.
  • U.S. Citizenship required; must obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Pass background screening (SSN, Driver Record, Criminal Background Investigation).
  • Minimum USCG 100‑Ton Credential required if operating vessels above 80 feet (desired, not required).
  • OSHA and Navy safety guidelines compliance.
