Position Summary

The Day Camp Counselor position helps create a fun, safe, and welcoming environment for children ages 5 - 11. This seasonal role involves supervising campers during daily activities and field trips, leading and participating in planned programs, and ensuring the overall safety and well-being of all participants. Counselors follow safety, licensing, and Safe From Harm guidelines, help manage camper behavior, keep program areas clean and organized, complete required paperwork, and attend staff meetings as scheduled.

A willingness to jump in, lead activities, and support campers throughout the day is essential.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Supervise an assigned group of youth ages 5-11 on site and on field trips.
  • Responsible for the care and well-being of program participants, being aware of and following all safety precautions and procedures, including administering emergency first aid as needed and recording such treatment with proper documentation.
  • Responsible for knowing Safe From Harm program guidelines and following them.
  • Responsible for adhering to state childcare licensing guidelines, as instructed by supervisors.
  • Mediate any behavior problems between campers that may arise.
  • Responsible for the implementation of program plans as assigned by the Community Center Director or assigned activity leads.
  • Willingness to participate and take a leadership role in all planned activities such as Bible study, swimming, group games, crafts, and music and more.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all areas and resources used by the day camp program.
  • Conform to the weekly schedule and attend all staff meetings.
  • Complete all paperwork and administrative duties as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old
Education/Experience
  • High School diploma/GED or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Previous experience working with youth
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Ability to lead and participate in group activities
  • Ability to complete basic paperwork and documentation accurately
  • Ability to model positive behavior
Computer Skills
  • Basic knowledge of computer systems
  • Basic knowledge in Microsoft Office 365 (preferred)
Certificates and Licenses
  • Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
  • Current First Aid / CPR certification, or ability to be certified within 30 days
  • Must have and maintain a current valid driver's license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR).
