Instructional Aide/Career Coach

Starting Date: Immediately

Position Summary

This individual will actively support transition services for special education students in both work‑based learning worksites (e.g., Meijer) and the classroom. Understanding and meeting the needs of students with disabilities is essential. Success in this role depends on collaboration with educators and employers.

Required Qualifications
  • Post‑secondary degree preferred
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license; expected to obtain a chauffeur’s license. SCCRESA reserves the right to periodically check your driving record to ensure validity.
  • Previous experience with individuals with disabilities
  • Experience supporting instruction, work‑based learning, and transition services
  • Self‑managed with proven ability to achieve targeted goals
  • Flexible and adaptable to the needs of students and the program
  • Physical tolerance for the daily assigned routine, including traveling within the community, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and twisting
  • Ability to lift students and manipulate wheelchair‑bound students
  • Experience with Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports; CPI preferred
  • CPR and First Aid training preferred
  • Regular predictable attendance is an essential function of the position
  • Has received or willing to receive COVID vaccination if placed as a job coach at a medical site
Essential

Job Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the teacher and the transition team to support the program implementation, instructional activities, and work‑based learning opportunities for students
  • Build relationships with identified students through one‑on‑one and small‑group interaction in the classroom and the work‑based setting
  • Support students and monitor student progress and behaviors in a variety of settings, including individual, small group, the classroom, and job sites
  • Demonstrate the ability to utilize various tools for the assessment of knowledge and skills
  • Transport students to and from community‑based experiences and work‑based placements
  • Monitor employer’s adherence to work‑based agreements and risk management, and communicate concerns to the transition teacher and/or Work‑based Learning Coordinator
  • Support the transition program with students, parents, educators, agencies, and employers
  • Demonstrate creative and skillful collaboration with school staff, agencies, employers, and students
  • Utilize effective communication skills with students, co‑workers, and the public
  • Adhere to the expectations and requests of the Next Step Supervisor, Transition Coordinator, classroom teacher, and the Work‑based Learning Coordinator
  • Support skills application within community and work‑based learning settings
  • Other duties as assigned

Conditions of Employment
  • Employment Date:
    Pending School Board approval and satisfactory completion of the pre‑employment drug screen and background checks.
  • Employment Type:

    Non‑union, at‑will position, 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday
  • Work Schedule:

    185 instructional work days
  • Work Day:
    Standard instructional staff hours: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
  • Wage:
    Pay Scale starting at $17.20 per hour
  • Benefits:
    Non‑Union Employee Fringe Benefits, including Single Subscriber Medical Insurance
