Job DescriptionSubstitute Instructional Aide/Career Coach
Nonunion, at-will, on-call position
POSITION SUMMARYThis individual will be actively involved in supporting transition services for special education students in the transition program in both work-based learning worksites (Meijer) and the classroom. The ability to understand the needs of students with disabilities is essential. Critical to the success of this role is collaboration with both educators and employers. This position does not have a guaranteed work schedule for the school year.
REQUIREDQUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license with the expectation to obtain a chauffeur’s license (SCCRESA reserves the right to periodically check driving record).
- Previous experience with individuals with disabilities.
- Experience in supporting instruction, work-based learning and transition services.
- Flexible and adaptable to the needs of students and the program.
- Physical tolerance for daily routine, including traveling within community, lifting up to 50 pounds, bent, stooped, pushed, pulled, and twisted.
- Experience with Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports and CPI preferred.
- CPR and First Aid training preferred.
- Collaborate with teacher and transition team to support program implementation, instructional activities and work-based learning opportunities for students.
- Build relationships with identified students through one-on‑one and small group interaction in the classroom and the work‑based setting.
- Support students, and monitor student progress and behaviors in a variety of settings including individual, small group, the classroom and job sites.
- Demonstrate ability to utilize various tools for assessment of knowledge and skills.
- Transport students to and from community‑based experiences and work‑based placements.
- Monitor employer’s adherence to work‑based agreements and risk management, and communicate concerns to transition teacher and/or Work‑based Learning Coordinator.
- Support the transition program with students, parents, educators, agencies, and employers.
- Demonstrate creative and skillful collaboration with school staff, agencies, employers, and students.
- Utilize effective communication skills with students, co‑workers and the public.
- Adhere to expectations and requests of Next Step Supervisor, Transition Coordinator, classroom teacher and the Work‑based Learning Coordinator.
- Support skills application within community and work‑based learning settings.
- Other duties as assigned.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTEmployment Date:
Pending School Board approval and satisfactory completion of the pre‑employment drug screen and background checks.
Employment Type:
Non-union, at‑will, on‑call position.
Work Schedule:
Up to 185 instructional work days.
Work Day:
Standard instructional staff hours: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.
Wage:
Pay Scale starting at $15.00/hour.
