Position
:
The AES Operations team seeks a Solar Technician II to cover assigned O&M activities for solar PV sites and substations at utility-scale Solar Energy Plants in Michigan. The role supports AES CE operations to exceed industry standards and offers opportunities for professional growth. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can build, train, and lead other field personnel.

Location
: Calhoun County Solar site –
13725 26 Mile Road, Albion, Michigan 49224
. Daily site commuting is required. Some travel to Nebraska (Platte view project, Yutan, NE) may be required.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for assigned O&M activities at solar PV sites and substations for utility-scale plants.
  • Performs corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance and operations for equipment such as:
    • Sun Grow 3150
    • Sun Grow 3600
    • Nextracker XTR
    • High, Medium, Low voltage switching
  • Performs other technical and administrative duties related to operating and maintaining a power facility.
  • Prepares and implements switching and clearance orders.
  • Ensures work complies with environmental and safety requirements.
  • Performs work independently or in crews.

Education / Experience
  • Three (3) or more years’ experience as a PV O&M solar technician.
  • Five (5) or more years’ experience in a power plant, with one (1) or more years in PV Solar O&M or construction.
  • Knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals (single-craft journeyman skills) such as electrical measurements, control circuits, and solid-state theory.
  • Basic knowledge of operational characteristics of equipment and control devices installed in power facilities.
Working Conditions
  • Working outside; typical plant and/or office environment with exposure to heights, various temperatures, and humidity.
  • Standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to inspect or collect data.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear protection, etc.).
  • Occasional work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals.
  • Occasionally required to lift objects to perform duties.
  • May require overtime and non-standard hours as needed.
