Transportation Engineer - Traffic Operations
DLZ Corporation is seeking a Transportation Engineer - Traffic Operations to serve as a technical specialist supporting Michigan traffic engineering. This role is best suited for a PE with strong experience in traffic analysis, modeling, and traffic control design, who wants to be a go‑to technical resource within the region.
What You’ll Do- Perform and lead traffic engineering, traffic analysis, and safety studies for Michigan roadway projects.
- Develop signal design, signing, and pavement marking plans, maintenance of traffic (MOT) and Transportation Management Plans (TMPs).
- Utilize traffic software such as Synchro/Sim Traffic, SIDRA, VISSIM, and/or RODEL.
- Coordinate with roadway designers and project managers to integrate traffic solutions into MDOT projects.
- Review drawings and deliverables to ensure conformance with Michigan standards and QC procedures.
- Prepare specifications, cost estimates, schedules, and client progress reports.
- Participate in field reviews and support construction phase traffic engineering needs.
- Assist with business development and proposal support for Michigan transportation clients.
- Recognized internally and externally as a traffic and safety subject matter expert.
- Delivers clear, defensible traffic analyses that translate into effective design decisions.
- Maintains strong technical credibility with MDOT, local agencies, and project partners.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- 5-10 years of experience in traffic/transportation engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Michigan or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Demonstrated experience with traffic analysis and modeling software.
- Experience with Open Roads Designer and/or Civil 3D.
- Ability to safely access and traverse construction sites in Michigan.
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification.
- Experience with MDOT and/or Local Agency Federal Aid projects.
- GIS experience.
