Externship + New Graduate Opportunity

If you are looking for a hospital that prioritizes patient care and clinical excellence, look no further than Lake Huron in Port Huron, Michigan. We are proud to be AAHA Accredited, a status reflecting our deep commitment to the highest standards of veterinary medicine for every small animal patient we see. This accreditation means you will be practicing in an environment committed to upholding the best protocols in patient safety, facility maintenance, and diagnostics.

This is an opportunity to join a compassionate and highly skilled group of teammates dedicated to supporting you as you grow your career and focus on doing your best work. When you join our team, you become part of a larger network that is truly invested in your future. We maintain a culture built on collaboration and continuous learning. You will be supported in meeting your personal career goals, whether that means advancing into a leadership role, pursuing advanced credentialing like becoming a CVT, or simply mastering new surgical or diagnostic techniques.

We ensure our management and workflow support systems are in place so you can focus entirely on patient care and succeed, never struggling with a lack of resources or inadequate scheduling. The quality of medicine you practice here is always backed by specialized support. As part of our network, you will have access to internal specialty consultation support for complex cases, ensuring you can deliver comprehensive, modern care right here in Port Huron.

We commit to providing the equipment and technology necessary for advanced small animal diagnostics and treatments. We believe in providing all our teammates the educational tools and mentorship they need to excel clinically and provide exceptional medical outcomes every day. Port Huron offers a distinct and beautiful community experience right where Lake Huron meets the St. Clair River. Known as the Maritime Capital of the Great Lakes, you will enjoy a relaxed lifestyle characterized by stunning waterfront views, historic lighthouses, and ample opportunity for boating, hiking, and outdoor recreation.

This is a family-friendly community that combines small-town charm with the accessible resources of a mid-sized city, giving you the perfect backdrop to establish your personal and professional life.

$1,000/Week Stipend | Open to the Class of 2027

We're doing more than offering a great externship—we're looking for the veterinarians who will join our team. This is an externship track designed for students who are ready to start thinking about where they'll launch their careers.

Externs in this track receive an enhanced stipend of $1,000/week—double our standard rate—because this experience is tied to a hiring opportunity. This hospital has an open new-grad doctor position, and your externship here is a genuine first step toward a full-time role. You get paid, hands-on experience, and we both get the chance to see if this is the right fit for your career.

This externship is designed to give you a real, working look at what it's like to practice here—the team, the caseload, the community, and the day-to-day. Think of it as a two-way conversation. You get to evaluate whether this is where you want to begin your career, and we get to know you as a future colleague. There's no obligation, and there's no pressure.

But if it clicks, the path from extern to full-time doctor here is a short one.

  • Gain broad clinical experience:
Receive mentorship & supervision from experienced veterinarians

Put your classroom knowledge to the test and develop your hands-on abilities in a supportive environment
What You'll Bring to the Team
  • Active enrollment in a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program at an accredited university, graduating in 2027
  • Professional comportment and appearance, with excellent interpersonal skills and a positive, friendly attitude.
  • A commitment to practicing the highest standard of medicine and upholding the veterinary code of ethics.
  • A compassionate, team-player attitude and a respect for clients and their pets.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
