THE CITY OF PORT HURON IS CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE FOLLOWING PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY:
PC / NETWORK TECHNICIAN (PART-TIME) GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIESProvide maintenance, repairs, and operational support for all computing devices, handheld devices, printers and all other network-connected end-user devices. Responsible for troubleshooting, installing, testing, maintaining and upgrading networked and standalone components’ hardware and software. Focus shall be on PC workstation setup, standardization and troubleshooting.
SUPERVISION RECEIVEDWork is performed under the supervision of the Director of Information Technology or their designated representative.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK(These examples do not include all of the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform.)
- Provide assistance to all user locations/departments, including troubleshooting, problem resolution and asset management assistance. Assistance may be desk side/in person or performed remotely.
- Prepare and deploy new end-user technology components for customer use by ensuring network and system interoperability, configuring and testing required OSes and applications, and confirming correct behavior of all associated peripheral equipment.
- Assist in maintaining, supporting and operating computer systems, peripherals, PCs and some network troubleshooting.
- Perform software, computer, printer and hardware installation, upgrades, removal, support and troubleshooting.
- Transports computer equipment which may weigh as much as fifty (50) pounds.
- Complies with all safety rules and regulations and City of Port Huron’s policies.
- Ability to use discretion and maintain sensitive and confidential information.
- Assist in the overall functions of the Information Technology Department.
- Perform related work as required.
- Ability to lift boxes and equipment up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Ability to sit, bend, stoop, crouch, crawl and kneel several times per shift in an ergonomically correct manner.
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to climb several flights of stairs per shift.
- Ability to work in an office environment with many interruptions.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule and/or after hours or on weekends when necessary to accommodate departmental needs, system upgrades and maintenance.
- Ability to install, remove and troubleshoot computer equipment, including but not limited to PCs, laptops, printers, scanners and network-related equipment.
- Ability to install, remove and troubleshoot a variety of technologies and applications in order to effectively support clients, including but not limited to Windows, Microsoft Office products, financial and technical software, intranet and internet applications.
- Familiarity with TCP/IP Protocol, switches and routers.
- Ability to identify the root cause of problems and to apply and document permanent corrective actions to repair the problems.
An employee in this class, upon appointment, should have the equivalent of the following training and experience:
- Associates Degree in Computer Science or equivalent training or work experience as outlined below:
- Minimum of two (2) years of hands‑on experience in repair and maintenance of personal computer devices, handheld devices, printers and peripheral devices.
- Minimum of one (1) year of hands‑on experience with network hardware and software.
- Minimum of one (1) year of hands‑on experience troubleshooting and maintaining instructional, presentation and/or performance technologies.
- Must possess a valid State of Michigan operator license, with a clean driving record at all times.
- Transportation, ability and willingness to travel to and from remote sites.
Approximately 28 hours per week, Monday – Friday, between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm
Salary$19.00 - $22.00 hourly
