POSITION SUMMARY
The Swim & Water Safety Coordinator leads the Swim & Water Safety Team on a daily basis including implementing the assigned team plans, organizing the team resources, directing the team members and controlling the team’s performance. Develops, organizes and implements high quality, YMCA swim and water safety programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Leads and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Expands swim and water safety activities within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Creates and schedules swim classes, water safety classes and swim team practices. Secures and schedules pool and classroom facilities.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of swim and water safety program information. May review and process program scholarship applications.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
- Assists in the recruitment, hiring and evaluation of staff and volunteers. Trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- Assists with developing and monitoring program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
- Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
- Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
- Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
All staff will:
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
- Attend required abuse risk management training.
- Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements as required.
All leadership staff will:
- Follow employee and volunteer screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk.
- Provide employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk.
- Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with consumers.
- Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
- Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the YMCA’s progressive discipline policy.
- Respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
- Communicate to all employees and volunteers the organization’s commitment to protect their consumers from abuse.
- Report essential abuse risk management information to the board of directors.

- 1-3 years of supervisory experience or the equivalent.
- Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
