The CNC machinist operates and maintains CNC machines to produce high-quality parts according to specifications, while adhering to safety regulations and contributing to the efficient operation of the manufacturing process at Wirtz Manufacturing.

Essential Functions:

Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD models to understand part specifications, dimensions, and tolerances.

Select and install appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and work-holding devices for each machining operation.

Program CNC machines using G-code or conversational programming languages to define toolpaths, cutting speeds, feed rates, and other machining parameters.

Set up and operate CNC machines, including loading and unloading work pieces, monitoring machine performance, and making adjustments as needed.

Perform quality checks on finished parts using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure conformance to specifications.

Identify and troubleshoot machining problems, such as tool wear, machine malfunctions, and material defects.

Perform routine maintenance on CNC machines, including cleaning, lubrication, and replacement of worn parts.

Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures in the machine shop environment.

Maintain a clean and organized work area.

Collaborate with other machinists, engineers, and production personnel to ensure smooth workflow and efficient production.

Stay up to date on the latest CNC machining technologies and techniques.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes and product quality.

Previous machining experience preferred – Min 3 years setting up CNC preferred

Understanding of G&M code of CNC controllers

Understanding of material properties and characteristics

Working knowledge of various measuring gages: micrometers, pin gages, dial indicators, height gages, calipers, comparator/stand gage Ability to do math computations

Ability to interact effectively with customers, peers, management, manufacturing personnel, technical and non-technical people.
