Overview

Responsibilities- Monitor DCS alarms, graphics, standard operating conditions, panels, gas detection systems, interlocks, and UPS systems.
- Make process adjustments to maintain control of the process while following operating procedures, quality control plans, daily instructions, plant rules, and government guidelines.
- Record information on logs and forms and write work requests for repairs to achieve operating excellence and environmental stewardship.
- Track chemical production activities, temperatures, pressures, and levels; ensure safety equipment (alarms, interlocks) is operational and not bypassed.
- Respond to emergencies (loss of power, steam, cooling water, instrument air, fire, dangerous situations) by following emergency procedures and using safety equipment.
- Coordinate actions with field operators and adjust process parameters for weather‑related events, including system shutdowns if necessary.
- Monitor sample results; request additional samples and take corrective actions when lab results are out of specification.
- Log employee time sheets, track overtime hours, and participate in shift hand‑offs and key operator communication meetings.
- Participate in audits, investigations, HAZOPs, PHAs, and quality initiatives; maintain good housekeeping of equipment, control rooms, and production areas.
- Ensure compliance with integrated management system requirements (safety, food safety, GMP, health, environmental, quality, responsible care).
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor and participate in Environmental, Health & Safety initiatives.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree in Process Operating Technology strongly preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant operating experience in a process industry (petrochemical, refinery, pulp & paper); console operating experience preferred.
- For internal candidates only, 1 year of relevant operator experience at the site is required.
- Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or the ability to obtain one.
- Proficiency with SAP, internet, email, and Microsoft Office.
- Mechanical aptitude and strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work extra hours, including overtime, if required by staffing needs.
