PRIMARY
PURPOSE:
Under general supervision, perform skilled work in construction, alteration, repair, and installation of fixtures, buildings, and structures throughout the district. Maintain district structures and furniture in attractive and safe condition.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School graduate or certificate of high school equivalence (GED)
Experience/Licenses: Three years’ experience in general building maintenance
Licenses: Clear and valid Texas driver’s license
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
- Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in general maintenance and construction
- Ability to use hand and power tools
- Ability to measure and perform mathematical calculations
- Ability to follow written and verbal instruction
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbally)
- Ability to work independently
MAJOR
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Detect and complete needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment by following established inspection and maintenance procedures.
- Plan and complete construction of cabinets, shelves, and partitions from initial layout to assembly following oral instructions, plans, specifications, blueprints, and work orders.
- Select material and hardware and calculate materials estimates.
- Assist with the installation and moving of portable buildings including constructing steps and installing underpinning.
- Receive and complete work orders. Respond to emergency calls as needed.
- Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean and excess materials are removed as needed.
- Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
- Work with building principals and supervisors to schedule and complete projects.
- Be able to perform all types of general maintenance and repairs.
- Work with Director to schedule and complete projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
Safety
- Operate equipment and use tools following established safety procedures.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Correct unsafe conditions in the area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
- Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required.
- Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
- Must practice reliable and regular attendance.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None.
EQUIPMENT USED
Power tools (drill, saw, etc.), hand tools welder (gas and electric air), concrete mixer, mower, weed trimmer, blower, edger, and garden tools.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Continual walking and standing; frequent heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over); climbing, stooping, kneeling, and reaching. Work outside and inside. Exposed to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, odors, noise, and vibrations. Exposed to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards. Work around moving objects or vehicles. Maintain emotional control under stress.
