CTE INTERPRETER
South Kitsap School District – Port Orchard, Washington
Position OverviewThe CTE Interpreter provides American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation support to Deaf ASL teachers and students in the high school setting. The role collaborates closely with certificated staff to adapt lesson plans, facilitate classroom communication, and assist with instructional materials and administrative tasks.
Essential Functions- Collaborate with certificated staff to lead, guide, and coordinate with students.
- Interpret spoken language to sign language and vice versa, ensuring accurate and timely communication between teachers and students.
- Interpret teacher’s ASL for classroom instruction to enable student comprehension.
- Monitor student interactions and provide feedback to the classroom teacher.
- Participate in meetings and trainings to share information and improve skills.
- Provide clerical support, including data collection, correspondence, copying, filing, and organizing instructional materials.
- Work under limited supervision while operating within a defined budget.
- Utilize resources from other work units as needed to perform required functions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
- Skill:
Prepare and maintain accurate records. - Knowledge:
American Sign Language (ASL) or Signing Exact English (SEE); basic math; reading technical information; document composition; facilitation of group discussions; problem solving. - Ability:
Schedule activities; gather, collate, and classify data; use job‑related equipment; work with diverse individuals and groups; maintain confidentiality.
Job‑related experience within a specialized field is required.
Education (Minimum)Community college and/or vocational school degree with emphasis in ASL or SEE, or a score of 3.5 on the Education Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) performance portion, or Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification and passing the EIPA written assessment.
Certificates and Licenses- ASL or SEE Interpreter Certification.

Clearances- Washington State Patrol and FBI Fingerprint Background Clearance.
