Marcus Whitman Middle School (MWMS) is a three‑year comprehensive program operating on a semester system. The mission is to develop and promote learning in a safe and caring atmosphere bringing together community, family, students, and teachers.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Participate as a department and school team member, including working with outside agencies.
- Cooperate with other staff to develop effective, positive techniques for improving student behavior.
- Provide positive assistance and guidance to a diverse population.
- Maintain student, counseling, and confidential records.
- Participate in guidance discussions with students to provide appropriate educational programs.
- Participate in staff meetings, planning events, and department/unit meetings.
- Participate in the total building program, including assemblies, contests, and other student activities.
- Work cooperatively with total building staff in an atmosphere of cooperation and collegiality.
- Demonstrate ability to provide student orientation services.
- Teamwork – Exhibits objectivity and openness to others’ views, gives and welcomes appropriate feedback, and contributes to building a positive team spirit.
- Planning/Organizing – Prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently, and conserves resources.
- Computer Skills – Knowledge of computer operating systems.
- Customer Service – Maintains professional demeanor, responds promptly to staff, student, and public needs.
- Mathematical Skills – Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
- Interpersonal Skills – Keeps emotions under control, respects cultural differences, promotes a harassment‑free environment.
- Oral & Written Communication – Listens, clarifies, and writes clearly and informatively.
- Professionalism – Acts tactfully, reacts well under pressure, treats others with respect, and follows through on commitments.
- Quality – Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness, and continuous improvement.
- Safety & Security – Observes procedures and reports unsafe conditions.
- Attendance & Punctuality – Consistently on time for work, meetings, and appointments.
- Dependability – Follows instructions, fulfils commitments, and complies with policies.
- Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Elementary Education.
- Flexible, committed to accomplishment, with outstanding communication, conceptual, and positive student relationship skills, and a willingness to participate in a team environment.
- Demonstrated successful teaching experience and use of research‑based instructional strategies, especially in reading.
- Knowledge of an integrated curriculum and a commitment to broaden curriculum knowledge through professional development.
- Knowledge of new technology and ability to incorporate it into instructional programs.
- Compatibility with staff, program, and school goals.
- Commitment to fostering a positive attitude and safe environment for students and others.
