Marcus Whitman Middle School (MWMS) is a three‑year comprehensive program operating on a semester system. The mission is to develop and promote learning in a safe and caring atmosphere bringing together community, family, students, and teachers.

• Participate as a department and school team member, including working with outside agencies.
• Cooperate with other staff to develop effective, positive techniques for improving student behavior.
• Provide positive assistance and guidance to a diverse population.
• Maintain student, counseling, and confidential records.
• Participate in guidance discussions with students to provide appropriate educational programs.
• Participate in staff meetings, planning events, and department/unit meetings.
• Participate in the total building program, including assemblies, contests, and other student activities.
• Work cooperatively with total building staff in an atmosphere of cooperation and collegiality.
• Demonstrate ability to provide student orientation services.

• Planning/Organizing – Prioritizes and plans work activities, uses time efficiently, and conserves resources.

• Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Elementary Education.
• Flexible, committed to accomplishment, with outstanding communication, conceptual, and positive student relationship skills, and a willingness to participate in a team environment.
• Demonstrated successful teaching experience and use of research‑based instructional strategies, especially in reading.
• Knowledge of an integrated curriculum and a commitment to broaden curriculum knowledge through professional development.
• Knowledge of new technology and ability to incorporate it into instructional programs.
• Compatibility with staff, program, and school goals.
• Commitment to fostering a positive attitude and safe environment for students and others.
