Position: ELEMENTARY TEACHER

Overview

Elementary Teacher position at Burley Glenwood Elementary, South Kitsap School District, Port Orchard, WA. Reports to the Building Principal.

Employment type:

Certificated;
Salary based on experience;
Hours per day: 7.5;
Days per year: 185. Starting date:
August 24, 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Participates as a department and school team member with responsibility for the education of assigned students.
  • Modifies instructional programs to meet individual student needs.
  • Plans and implements a course of instruction designed to achieve required academic standards in the physical education curriculum areas (in collaboration with staff as applicable).
  • Collaborates with staff to develop effective techniques for improving student behavior.
  • Educates students with special needs within the regular classroom environment in collaboration with support staff.
  • Provides positive assistance and guidance to a diverse population.
  • Works with students and parents who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse; reports progress to parents regularly.
  • Maintains student records, daily grades, essential learning data, and inventories; reports student progress to parents.
  • Delivers instruction using a variety of instructional strategies and available resources, including technology.
  • Participates in child guidance discussions with students to provide appropriate programs for their educational level.
  • Participates in team and individual instructional planning, including writing daily lesson plans.
  • Attends staff meetings, planning events, and department/unit meetings.
  • Contributes to the total building program, including assemblies, contests, and other student activities.
  • Works cooperatively with total building staff in an atmosphere of cooperation and collegiality.
Qualifications
  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Elementary Education.
  • Flexibility, strong communication and collaboration skills, and a commitment to teamwork.
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience and ability to utilize research-based instructional strategies, including emphasis on reading skills.
  • Knowledge of integrated curriculum and willingness to engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to incorporate new technology into instructional programs.
  • Compatibility with staff, program, and school goals; commitment to a positive, safe environment for students and staff.
  • Willingness to participate in a team environment and adjust schedule as needed for calendar events.
