comments: when working in environments where de-escalation, isolation, and restraint training is required, employees will be compensated at a rate of an additional $0.50 per hour (elementary) or $0.75 per hour (secondary).
purpose statement
the job of para educator - 1-1 vision support is done for the purpose/s of assist the student, teachers and other certificated staff for the purpose of implementing instructional goals; developing students' learning, daily living, physical, social, communications, and/or behavior skills; and evaluating students' progress on learning objectives. Provides support through reading, writing and some sort of braille.
essential functions:
- accompany student with vision impairment to all classes, assists the student by providing support to help facilitate the access to classroom instruction under the supervision of the teacher for the purpose of support a positive learning environment;
- assist in preparation of classroom instructional vision materials. As well as assist with testing, instruction, and student evaluations for the purpose of supporting the health and well-being of the student as well as ensuring iep goals are met;
- attends meetings and trainings (e.g. First-aid, cpr, de-escalation, emergency procedures, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions;
- engage and encourage visually impaired student for the purpose of facilitating and supporting a positive learning environment;
- maintains confidentiality at all times following hippa, ferpa, iep for the purpose of guidance and in accordance with district, state and federal guidelines;
- monitors students during a variety of school environments (e.g. Rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment;
- promotes a positive environment for visually impaired student's learning and well-being for the purpose of safety and inclusion;
- provides assistance through proper guide techniques for the purpose of learning to navigate school building and grounds;
- provides classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher by a use of a variety of materials and methods (visual) for the purpose of meeting the needs of the student;
