Position: WDVA Nursing Assistant Certified, Part-Time, NOC Shift, Washington Veterans Home

Nursing Assistant Certified – Part‑Time (60%)

Serve America's heroes with your caregiving expertise! Our team is pleased to announce we are now accepting applications for a Part‑Time (60%) Nursing Assistant Certified for our Night Shift at the historic Washington Veterans Home in beautiful Port Orchard, Washington.

We are hiring for a NOC Shift. Work hours will be 10:45 pm to 7:15 am, Friday through Sunday nights. This position is not eligible for telework.

Updated as of July 1, 2025:
This position is eligible for “Supplement Basic Shift Premium” for 24/7 Facilities. Employees assigned to a facility that provides direct care will receive an additional $1.00 per hour of supplemental basic shift premium for each hour of basic shift premium. The premium does not apply to overtime hours and expires on June 29, 2027.

Some of what you'll do:
  • Assist residents with bathing, dressing, grooming, hygiene care, toileting, eating, and monitoring/feeding of meals and nourishment.
  • Assist with range‑of‑motion exercises, practice infection‑control techniques, and observe/report changes in resident condition to licensed personnel.
  • Accurately obtain and record vital signs and other resident data.
  • Document intake and output records.
  • Perform basic nursing procedures such as applying anti‑embolism stockings, applying creams or lotion to intact skin, etc.
  • Dispose of contaminated waste as appropriate.
  • Maintain a safe, sanitary, and harmonious environment.
  • Clean bedpans, washbasins, urinals, commodes, beds, night stands, and over‑bed tables.

Required:
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered on a year‑for‑year basis; experience must be relevant to the position.
  • Valid Washington state license to practice as a nursing assistant certified.
  • At least six months of experience involving customer service in a health‑care setting or direct patient care.
  • Proficiency in English; able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Active status on the OBRA Registry.
  • Ability to perform data entry, maintain confidentiality, provide a positive living environment for residents, follow written and verbal directions, document and report observed changes, and demonstrate proficiency in English.
Preferred/Desired:
  • Long‑term care experience.
Special Requirements :
  • Must be able to pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to beginning services and every two years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks.
  • Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing.
  • Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by Washington Industrial Safety and Hazard Prevention Act standards; must wear respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other PPE as required.
  • Must lift up to 60 lbs. and reach a minimum of 36" using proper technique; must be able to push or pull with sufficient strength and walk, sit, and bend unrestricted during the entire workday.
  • Must remain current on the OBRA Registry and maintain a valid NAC license with the Washington State Dept. of Health.
  • Must remain current in CPR.
  • Must maintain regular and reliable attendance and be willing to work as needed.
  • Must successfully complete all mandatory orientation, annual, in‑service, and other required training within mandated time frames.
  • Must become familiar with and comply with all DVA policies and procedures and collective bargaining agreements as applicable.
  • Must sign the confidentiality statement for all employees.
  • Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver’s license and be insured if driving a private vehicle on state business.
  • Candidates offered a job with WDVA must possess work authorization not requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future.
