Step M represents longevity steps per state HR compensation rules. It is eligible for Supplemental Basic Shift Premium for 24/7 facilities, with an additional $1.00 per hour for each hour of basic shift premium; this premium does not apply to overtime hours and expires on June 29, 2027.
At the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA), we are dedicated to the mission of “Serving Those Who Served.” We provide services for nearly 500,000 Veterans and their families, and operate four State Veterans Homes in Orting, Port Orchard, Spokane, and Walla Walla, delivering Medicare/Medicaid nursing home care to Veterans and, in some cases, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse 2, you will provide resident-centered care, ensure a safe and healthy environment, treat residents with dignity and respect, and tailor care to individual needs. You will assist and monitor residents with activities of daily living based on current nursing standards of practice and with a heart for our mission.
Responsibilities- Prepare, carry out, evaluate, and revise treatment plans for individual residents based on observations and recommendations from physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other nurses.
- Pass medications and administer, monitor, and record treatments; assess resident condition (including skin assessment); promote resident participation in recreational activities.
- Suction patients, administer oxygen, catheterization, irrigation; administer IV solutions, colostomy and trach care; maintain gastric feeding tubes and pumps.
- Process physician orders.
- Assist with routine rehabilitative and maintenance.

Required:
- Current Washington state practical nurse license or unencumbered practical nurse multistate license.
- Ability to demonstrate proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking); perform data entry; maintain confidentiality; provide a positive living environment for residents; follow written and verbal directions; document and report observed changes in patient condition and behavior.
Preferred/Desired:
- Washington state practical nurse license preferred.
- Long-term care experience and/or one year of experience as a practical nurse.
- Understanding of nursing and restorative care methods, infection control procedures, recordkeeping, report preparation, and client rights.
- Experience in assessing and participating in development of appropriate plans of care.
- Must pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check every two years per WDVA Policy 615.000. Background check information will be considered in determining suitability.
- Comply with annual Tuberculin Screening per DVA policy 670.000.
- Must wear respiratory protection as required (respirator, gloves, gowns, eye protection) and meet safety standards.
- Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs, reach 36 inches, and perform duties requiring walking, sitting, and bending during the workday.
- Maintain a valid practical nursing license from the State of Washington Department of Health.
- Maintain regular attendance and be willing to work as needed.
- Complete orientation and mandatory annual trainings within mandated time frames.
- Comply with all WDVA policies, procedures, and applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements.
- Sign the confidentiality statement for all employees.
- Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver’s license and be insured if using a privately owned vehicle on state business.
