Registered Nurse 2 – On-Call
Deliver skilled, compassionate care to our nation's heroes at the Washington Veterans Home! Our team is excited to announce we are now hiring for Registered Nurse 2 On-Call positions for our Washington Veterans Home in scenic Port Orchard, Washington.
“On‑call” is defined as positions where the work is intermittent, sporadic, and does not fit a particular pattern. On‑call employees are utilized to support operational staffing needs. Shifts for on‑call staff are scheduled on a rotational basis. The on‑call expectations for this position require staff to be available for at least four full shifts per month. This position is not eligible for telework.

This position is eligible for Supplement Basic Shift Premium for 24/7 Facilities. Employees assigned to a facility that provides direct care to residents receive an additional $1.00 per hour of supplemental basic shift premium for each hour of basic shift premium. This shift premium does not apply to overtime hours. The supplemental basic shift premium shall expire on June 29, 2027.
- Maintain healthcare records according to current policies and procedures.
- Administer medications and treatments for residents unable to do their own or monitor self‑pour medications of residents.
- Maintain incident log and provide learning experiences and feedback regarding incidents for direct care staff on unit.
- Encourage and empower residents and staff to meet residents' needs and requirements in a respectful and homelike environment.
- Maintain open communication and information‑sharing with staff.
- Assist in the presentation of training materials to staff.
- Perform nursing assessments of residents as necessitated by the condition of the resident, and on a quarterly basis for the completion of the Minimum Data Set.
- Assume responsibility for self‑development by awareness of new techniques and medications.
- Make rounds on a regular basis to ensure compliance with expectations of the unit.

- Valid Washington state registered nurse license or unencumbered registered nurse multistate license.
- Possess accurate methods and practices of nursing and restorative care, personal hygiene and sanitation methods, recordkeeping, report preparation, infection control procedures, and resident rights.
- Ability to:
- Assess, evaluate, and participate in the development of appropriate plans of care.
- Plan, implement, and document appropriate discharge planning for residents when appropriate and perform selected nursing procedures.
- Provide a positive living environment for residents relating to meeting psychosocial needs and document and report observed changes in patient condition and behavior.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the English language and be able to read, write and speak English.
- Agency Required Competencies for all positions:
- The ability to take action to learn and grow.
- The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.
- Valid Washington state license to practice as a registered nurse.
- Long‑term care experience.
- Must be able to pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to beginning services and every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
- Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening in accordance with DVA policy 670.000 Tuberculosis Testing.
- Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. and be capable of reaching a minimum of 36" using proper technique to stock shelves and access supplies. Employee must also be able to push or pull with sufficient strength and walk, sit, and bend in an unrestricted manner during the entire workday.
