WDVA Licensed Practical Nurse Washington Veterans

Licensed Practical Nurse 2 – Full‑time, Permanent – Day & Swing Shifts – Washington Veterans Home, Port Orchard, Washington.

• Prepare, carry out, evaluate, and revise treatment plans for individual residents based on personal observations and recommendations of physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and/or other nurses.
• Pass medications and administer, monitor, and record treatments; assess resident condition (including skin assessment); promote resident participation in recreational activities.
• Suction patients, administer oxygen, catheterization, irrigation; administer IV solutions, colostomy and trach care; maintain gastric feeding tubes and pumps.
• Process physician orders.
• Assist with routine rehabilitative and maintenance tasks.
• Provide resident‑centered care, ensuring a safe and healthy environment, dignity, and respect for all veterans.
• Assist and monitor residents with activities of daily living in accordance with current nursing standards of practice.

• Current Washington State practical nurse license or unencumbered practical nurse multistate license.
• Proficiency in the English language – able to read, write, and speak English.
• Ability to perform data entry, maintain confidentiality, and provide a positive living environment meeting psychosocial needs.
• Ability to follow written and verbal directions, document, and report observed changes in patient condition and behavior.
• Agency required competencies: ability to learn and grow, and to meet the needs of others.

• Washington State practical nurse license.
• Long‑term care experience or at least one year of experience as a practical nurse.
• Understanding of accurate nursing practices, restorative care, personal hygiene and sanitation, recordkeeping, report preparation, infection control, and client rights.
• Experience assessing, evaluating, and participating in the development of appropriate plans of care.

• Pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check every two years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000.
• Comply with annual Tuberculin Screening per DVA policy 670.000.
• Undergo medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by Washington Industrial Safety and Act standards; wear respirator, medical gloves, gowns, eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as needed.
• Lift up to 60 lbs and reach at least 36 inches using proper technique; push or pull with sufficient strength; walk, sit, and bend unrestricted during the workday.
• Maintain a valid practical nursing license issued by the Washington Department of Health.
• Demonstrate regular, reliable attendance and willingness to work as needed.
• Successfully complete employee orientation and all mandatory annual, in‑service, and other required training within mandated time frames.
• Familiarize and comply with all DVA policies, procedures, and Collective Bargaining Agreements.
• Sign the confidentiality statement.
• For positions involving travel, hold a valid unrestricted driver’s license and be insured for private vehicle use on state business.
• Possess work authorization not requiring sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.
