Position Summary
The Ford Automatic Transmission Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining Ford automatic transmissions and related drivetrain systems. This position requires advanced technical knowledge, strong diagnostic skills, and the ability to perform repairs in accordance with Ford Motor Company standards. The technician is expected to accurately diagnose customer concerns, complete repairs efficiently, and maintain the highest levels of quality and customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Diagnose and repair Ford automatic transmissions, transfer cases, differentials, and related drivetrain components.
- Perform transmission removal, overhaul, replacement, and reinstallation procedures.
- Utilize Ford diagnostic equipment, FDRS, IDS, PTS, and other Ford service resources to identify and resolve vehicle concerns.
- Diagnose electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and software-related transmission issues.
- Complete warranty and customer-pay repairs according to Ford repair procedures and dealership standards.
- Perform road tests to verify customer concerns and confirm repair effectiveness.
- Maintain accurate documentation of diagnostic findings, repair procedures, and labor operations.
- Communicate effectively with service advisors, dispatchers, parts personnel, and management regarding repair status and additional recommendations.
- Participate in Ford training programs and maintain required certifications.
- Follow all dealership safety policies and OSHA requirements.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Minimum 3 years of automotive transmission repair experience.
- Ability to diagnose and repair complex automatic transmission concerns.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to operate diagnostic scan tools and electronic testing equipment.
- Strong understanding of electrical and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to lift and move transmission components and automotive parts.
- Ford Senior Master Technician certification.
- Ford Automatic Transmission Specialty Certification.
- Experience with Ford 6R, 10R, 10R80, 10R140, E4OD, 4R100, Torq Shift, and hybrid/eCVT transmission systems.
- Maintain high levels of productivity and efficiency.
- Produce quality repairs with minimal comebacks.
- Accurately document repairs and warranty information.
- Demonstrate professionalism and teamwork.
- Stay current with Ford technical training and service publications.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work under vehicles for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to safely operate vehicle lifts, transmission jacks, and shop equipment.
