Minimum $12.00 - Maximum $15.00

Schedule:

Average 40 hours per week during the summer months - June, July, and August

Role Overview

Summer Counselors provide direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp program. You will provide a high-quality experience for children and parents, grounded in the YMCA's core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

What You’ll Do
  • Supervise and interact with counselors and their group of children
  • Implement program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.
  • Adhere to program standards, including safety and cleanliness standards
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies
  • Maintain positive relations with parents and other staff
  • Model relationship‑building skills in all interactions
  • Accept and demonstrate the Y’s core values and have a desire to fulfill community needs
  • Provide a high‑quality experience to children and parents by planning and implementing program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with the Y’s core values
  • Improvise quickly and appropriately in unexpected circumstances to better meet members’ needs
  • Generate and implement new ideas and approaches to improve member experiences by seeking out and incorporating diverse points of view
  • Maintain positive relationships with other staff and participants through seeking to understand the other’s point of view, building credibility, and remaining calm in challenging situations
