Port St. Lucie Parks & Recreation Department—recognized among the nation’s elite park and recreation agencies through accreditation by the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA)—is seeking a responsible and energetic individual to join our team for Summer Camp 2026.
Camp is scheduled to start June 8, 2026, and run through August 7, 2026
This position requires the applicant to successfully pass a drug screening.

The Summer Camp Senior Counselor supports the Camp Director in the overall operation of the summer camp program, with a focus on ensuring smooth daily check‑in procedures, supervising activities, and maintaining a safe and positive environment for campers and staff. This position provides leadership and guidance to camp staff, serves as a point of contact for parents and guardians, and assumes the role of Camp Director in their absence.
The Summer Camp Senior Counselor helps foster a welcoming, engaging, and safe camp experience that reflects the mission, vision, and values of the City of Port St. Lucie. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City.

- Keeps the mission, vision, and values of the City of Port St. Lucie at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
- Participates in orientation training. Becomes familiar with and implements camp policies, procedures, and philosophy as stated in the Summer Camp Staff Manual and learns the role of the Assistant Camp Director. Complies with established policies, procedures, and regulations of the Parks & Recreation Department and the City.
- Assists the Camp Director with the daily operation of the summer camp program and assumes the responsibilities of the Camp Director in their absence.
- Assists in organizing and setting up programs and activities; gathers materials, supplies, and equipment for use in implementing plans; ensures supplies are properly stored after use.
- Oversees morning camper check‑in to ensure an efficient, welcoming, and safe process for campers and families; assists with afternoon camper check‑out as assigned.
- Greets parents, guardians, and caregivers; answers questions and communicates information regarding camp schedules, camper progress, or concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
- Provides direction, guidance, and support to Counselors and staff in daily operations; serves as a positive role model and mentor for staff.
- Monitors campers’ actions and activities to ensure adherence to established safety procedures, policies, and operating requirements; assists in resolving conflicts or behavioral issues among campers.
- Helps maintain the cleanliness and organization of camp areas; inspects facilities daily for safety hazards and reports maintenance concerns.
- Participates in and supervises activities with campers; encourages participation and fosters a positive camp environment.
- Responds quickly, calmly, and appropriately in emergency situations; assists in carrying out emergency procedures and documentation as required.
- Assists the Camp Director with planning and implementing activities, special events, and field trips, including supervision and coordination as needed.
- Supports the supervision and evaluation of camp staff by providing feedback and reporting performance concerns to the Camp Director.
- Serves as a positive role model for campers and staff, including attitude, punctuality, respect, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
