Summary
The Lab Technician is a key role, responsible for the day-to-day completion of work assignments related to testing concrete, soils, asphalt, and other construction materials. The ideal candidate is a reliable, trustworthy individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment where collaboration and autonomy are valued.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all testing equipment used is functioning properly, maintained as required by company and/or manufacturer's policy, and that all calibrated equipment is within its calibration cycle
  • Ensure that project testing requirements are met and compliant with project specifications, requirements, and company policies or procedures
  • Conduct testing of soils, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials in accordance with applicable testing standards/methods (ASTM, AASHTO, FM, Army Corp of Engineers, DOT, etc.)
  • Report data in a complete, timely, and understandable fashion
  • Complete daily time and labor reports in accordance with company policy
  • Turn in paperwork related to the work order every day
  • Attend all technician meetings
  • Regular attendance is required
  • Must be flexible to changing schedules and hours to support business needs. Overnight and weekends schedules may be necessary to support business needs
  • Follow all company safety procedures and policies
  • Other duties may be assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)
  • Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 0-3 years of experience in construction materials testing, laboratory work, or a related field
  • Knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, or DOT testing standards
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting heavy materials and working in a laboratory setting
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain accurate records
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to read & write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients
  • Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Field Data Collection (FDC)/Inspector Gadget to input data and prepare reports
  • Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in ACI Concrete Testing, or similar construction materials testing programs
  • Experience in geotechnical laboratory testing and familiarity with CMT (Construction Materials Testing) procedures
  • Proficiency in data analysis software or laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
  • Prior experience working with state DOT or federal projects
