About the Organization

The Agricultural and Labor Program, Inc. (The ALPI) is a private, non-profit, community-based agency that provides services to migrants, seasonal farm workers, disadvantaged and disenfranchised children, individuals and families, in the State of Florida. The ALPI encourages the involvement of individuals served in decision-making processes affecting their lives.

The ALPI was established in 1968 with five underlying principles that guide all its activities:

• Involvement of people
• Emphasis on long term accomplishments rather than promises
• Assurances of economic viability
• Emphasis on self-help, and
• A sound, integrated, total systems approach

In conceptualizing the ALPI overall program, five (5) main areas of activity continue to emerge:

ALPI's Children and Family Services Division focus is on activities that enhance the process of providing developmentally appropriate early education activities including, but not limited to, health, nutrition, dental, mental health, parent information and referral on quality child care and health services programs.

The ALPI is a certified Child/Adult Care Food Program agency. Through this program, ALPI provides nutrition and meal services for Head Start and Child Care Program participants and certifies private child care providers to participate in the program.

The ALPI will continue to follow its mission of helping and advocating for those affected by poverty, as well as continue our commitment to bridging gaps that hinder self-sufficiency.

The Teacher reports to the Child Development Services Manager to provide services to children ages 3-5 years in the program. A select teacher at an assigned center will be in charge of center in the absences of the Child Development Services Manager. Teacher is directly responsible for program planning and daily supervision of an assigned group of children (15-20) ages 3-5 years.

Duties involve implementing activities which contribute to the social, physical, intellectual and emotional needs of group and individual children. Work also involves providing direction and technical assistance for Teacher Assistant, conducting parent conferences and home visits. Work is performed under the guidance of the Child Development Services Manager and is reviewed through monitoring, conferences and evaluations.

• Plans and carries-out classroom arrangement, lesson plans and various developmentally appropriate activities for children to develop social, emotional, intellectual and physical progress.
• Implements the program's curriculum focusing on the developmental need of children.
• Plans and implements developmentally appropriate field trips for children.
• Assists in the developmental and sensory screenings of children and assesses the ongoing developmental level of children.
• Ensures children portfolios include all eight domains for child outcomes.
• Administers developmental screenings.
• Uses child outcomes data reports to strengthen teaching techniques.
• Records observations on assessment on all children in Teaching Strategies Gold, ongoing assessment online system.
• Plans and implements individual activities for the children.
• Maintains accurate attendance and meal records.
• Provides supervision and a positive social and learning experiences for family style meal services.
• Reports suspected child abuse/neglect situations.
• Maintains a professional manner by dressing neatly and appropriately to serve as a positive adult model for children and parents.
• Maintains classroom environment, equipment and supplies in accordance with DCF regulations and Performance Standards.
• Conducts daily maintenance inspections of classroom and reports to the Child Development Services Manager needs regarding safety, materials, equipment or supplies.
• Organizes classroom into learning centers and ensures work space meet all local, state and federal requirements.
• Supervises, evaluates and assists Teacher Assistants to ensure a program which provides appropriate child development, and the development of Teacher Assistant as professional educators.
• Recruits and supervises volunteers to work in the classroom to utilize their skills effectively.
• Makes home visits in order to encourage parent participation in the program and help parents to become more familiar with the needs of children and with learning activities which can be conducted at home.
• Prepares written reports and supervise maintenance of records concerning the child's attendance, progress, problems, health, and parent contacts.
