the starting hourly pay for this position is $36.3035 - $41.74 depending on qualifications.

the focus of this position is high level, professional accounting work in compiling, maintaining, analyzing, and verifying diverse financial information. This position will work closely with other accounting staff and departments throughout the city. Requires frequent use of tact, discretion, initiative, independent judgement and general knowledge of the policies and procedures of the department and organization. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the city.

this position is considered an "essential position" for the purpose of emergency management. Emergency duties will be assigned as needed. This position requires 24 hours a day, 7 days per week availability during city of port st lucie emergencies, as determined by city administrators, emergency manager or city officials.

  • keeps the mission, vision, and values of the city of port st. Lucie at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
  • develops documentation to be included in the annual financial reports as needed.
  • responsible for preparing other high-level reports and analytical spreadsheets, including working with external auditors, as required.
  • provides research analysis for monthly and quarterly financial reports.
  • monitors revenue and expense during the fiscal year to ensure budget compliance.
  • prepares reports used in forecasting revenues and expenses.
  • performs monthly reconciliation of complex accounting transactions with cash accounts.
  • performs amortization entries as required by mortgage contracts.
  • assists with regularly reviewing internal controls and implementing updates to ensure the accuracy of financial systems, including but not limited to payroll, payables, receivables, cash handling, pensions, and financial reporting.
  • oversees and manages the reporting and verification of physical inventory for various departments.
  • prepares special accounting studies and analysis of various activities of the city; prepares special financial statements and reports for the information and guidance of city officials; maintains all city ledgers, other than detailed customer accounting subsidiaries and material inventories.
  • advises city accounting personnel on matters pertaining to accounting activities.
  • complies with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements and advises management on required actions.
  • assists accounting clerks and junior staff in matters pertaining to their daily activities.
  • maintains records and reconciliations.
  • maintains professional and technical knowledge of accounting changes in government accounting practice.
  • researches, analyzes, and provides fiscal information as needed for all projects or policies with fiscal impact on the department.
  • manages the city’s golf course inventory account within the enterprise resource planning (erp) system through the processing of cost of goods journal entries.
  • works across departments for various management funds and account allocations and transfers.
  • assists with the design of internal control for cash across city departments.
  • may serve as back‑up in other locations of the department to cover staff shortages.
