We are actively seeking an Information Security - Declassification Specialist to join our USSOUTHCOM HQ J2 team onsite in Doral, FL. This position requires an active TS/SCI or Top Secret with SCI eligibility.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the Puyenpa team supporting the USSOUTHCOM Garrison. The main responsibilities of the role include:
Classification & Declassification Management- Support original and derivative classification activities and mandatory, systematic, and automatic declassification programs using established classification and declassification guides.
- Apply appropriate classification markings and red actions to prevent unauthorized disclosure of classified information.
- Assist with Mandatory Declassification Review (MDR), Automatic Declassification Review (ADR), Systematic Declassification Review (SDR), and Ad Hoc declassification requests.
- Review declassification requests and determine the nature and applicable requirements, including requests associated with investigations and legal proceedings.
- Track classified information from origination through its 20-year mark and submit applicable materials for government approval and release to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).
- Track declassification requests from initial receipt through suspension, referral, disposition, or release.
- Document incorrect disposition decisions and referrals to other government agencies.
- Conduct detailed, line-by-line reviews of documents for redaction associated with MDR requests.
- Establish and maintain searchable repositories and tracking systems, including spreadsheets and databases, for classification and declassification program records.
- Maintain records associated with Security Classification Guides (SCGs), prepublication and security reviews, security incidents, DD Form 254s, appointed Contract Monitors, designated Original Classification Authorities (OCAs), and declassification authorities.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records supporting security, classification, disclosure authorization, access requests, and related activities.
- Plan and execute security staff assistance visits, surveys, assessments, and quarterly meetings in support of the Command Security Manager Program.
- Conduct virtual and in-person security assessments and document observations and results in accordance with USSOUTHCOM procedures.
- Conduct internal assessments using established checklists and applicable USSOUTHCOM policies.
- Evaluate document classification and marking accuracy through sampling and perform on-the-spot corrections when required.
- Identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions to improve the overall health and effectiveness of the security program.
- Assist with after-hours security inspections and walk-throughs to verify compliance and prevent security incidents and unauthorized disclosure.
- Make on-the-spot corrections and report security incidents in accordance with local policy.
- Prepare periodic reports documenting security inspection findings, trends, and corrective actions.
- Process courier requests and prepare courier cards and travel authorization letters within three business days.
- Maintain Excel-based courier accountability and reporting spreadsheets.
- Prepare classified information for transmission or transportation and provide related training.
- Maintain classified material inventories and ensure destruction is conducted in accordance with records management disposition instructions and USSOUTHCOM policy.
- Assist with Defense Courier Service (DCS) activities, including documentation, pickups, drop-offs, and receipt and delivery of classified materials.
- Coordinate and schedule classified material withholding pickups, including special pickups for personnel who are separating, retiring, PCSing, or responding to emergency events.
- Collect classified and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) material for weekly destruction in accordance with local policies.
- Transport materials to the designated Media Destruction Facility and perform destruction in accordance with established procedures.
- Remove destruction waste products and track destruction backlogs.
- Operate and perform operator-level maintenance on the Security Engineered Machinery (SEM) Model 23 disintegrator.
- Coordinate equipment servicing, cleaning, blade replacement, and supply acquisition with the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR).
