GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOBUnder general supervision, performs highly skilled mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and preventive maintenance work involving the City’s Water Reclamation Facility, wastewater collection system, lift stations, reclaimed water system, and related utility infrastructure and equipment. Serves as a lead worker by coordinating and providing technical directions to assigned utility maintenance personnel, assisting with the prioritization and scheduling of work, and reviewing work for quality, safety, and compliance with established procedures.
Maintains accurate preventive maintenance and repair records; assists with inventory and parts management; exercises independent judgement and works closely with the Superintendent WRD System Maintenance and other Water Reclamation Department personnel to maintain reliable and safe operation of the City's wastewater and reclaimed water infrastructure. Reports to the Superintendent of WRD System MaintenanceSPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Leads utility maintenance activities and provides technical guidance to utility mechanics, maintenance personnel, and assigned employees.
Assists the Superintendent WRD System Maintenance with daily work coordination, crew assignments, complex repairs, emergency response, equipment installations, shutdowns, bypass pumping, and specialized maintenance.
Monitors work in progress to ensure compliance with established procedures, specifications, safety requirements, and quality standards. Assists in determining the personnel, tools, equipment, materials, and methods necessary to complete work safely and efficiently. Provides feedback regarding equipment conditions, employee performance, training needs, safety concerns, and recurring maintenance issues.
Troubleshoots, repairs, rebuilds, installs, aligns, tests, and maintains pumps, motors, blowers, compressors, gearboxes, mixers, valves, actuators, gates, screens, conveyors, chemical-feed and sludge-handling equipment, and related mechanical systems throughout the wastewater treatment, collection, lift station, and reclaimed water systems.
Performs preventive and predictive maintenance, including inspections for abnormal vibration, noise, temperature, leakage, corrosion, wear, alignment, lubrication, and other conditions indicating deterioration or failure.
Performs or assists with welding, cutting, fabrication, pipe fitting, plumbing, rigging, equipment installation, modification, relocation using hand and power tools, lifting and rigging equipment, hydraulic equipment, precision instruments, and specialized diagnostic tools.
Assists qualified electrical and instrumentation personnel with troubleshooting motors, starters, variable frequency drives, controls, sensors, switches, floats, actuators, and related equipment.
Inspects, maintains, repairs, and installs wastewater collection and reclaimed water system components, including gravity sewers, force mains, valves, manholes, air-release assemblies, cleanouts, fittings, piping, and related appurtenances.
Operates sewer cleaning and maintenance equipment and assists with bypass pumping, temporary piping, hoses, pumps, fittings, and related systems during rehabilitation, emergency repairs, and maintenance activities.
Inspects lift stations and collection facilities for mechanical, operational, structural, corrosion, leakage, and other maintenance concerns.
Performs mechanical maintenance associated with wastewater treatment processes and coordinates maintenance activities
Responds to after-hours calls and emergency conditions involving sewer, lift station, treatment plant, reclaimed water, and other utility system failures.
Maintains accurate maintenance, inspection, repair, failure, parts, and material records; enters work orders;
Identifies required parts and materials
Reads and interprets equipment manuals, manufacturer specifications, blueprints, plans, as-builts, schematics, technical drawings, and other maintenance documentation.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Assists other Water Reclamation Department divisions and work crews with construction, maintenance, repair, and emergency activities as directed.
Assists with special projects, system rehabilitation, equipment replacement, facility improvements, and emergency preparedness activities.
Assists contractors and vendors working on City utility facilities and equipment, as directed.
Participates in training programs and maintains required certifications and licenses.
Provides technical assistance and training to other employees regarding equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and safe work practices.
Maintains assigned tools, vehicles, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Graduation from high school and three (3) to five (5) years of experience in wastewater utility maintenance, mechanical maintenance, industrial maintenance,…
