The Jefferson County Public Works Department is seeking a part-time, 32 hours per week, Bookkeeper II to join its Financial Management team. The Bookkeeper II position offers a diverse range of responsibilities, providing financial and administrative support primarily for the Solid Waste Division, with additional bookkeeping responsibilities for other Public Works programs and funds. Key duties include managing Solid Waste billing, accounts receivable, daily cash and credit card receipting, deposits, reconciliations, reporting, and related accounting activities.

The role also supports department-wide financial processes, including accounts payable and payroll. The Bookkeeper II will also assist with fee collection and processing at the Port Townsend Solid Waste Transfer Station and occasionally at the Quilcene drop box location.

Working under the general direction of the Financial Manager, the Bookkeeper II plays an important role in ensuring accurate, timely, and well-organized financial operations.

This opportunity is a great fit for someone who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and enjoys working as part of a team. Strong communication and data processing skills are important, as is the ability to manage a wide variety of tasks with accuracy.

Associate’s degree (AA) in accounting, two (2) years as a Bookkeeper I, and two (2) years of related governmental bookkeeping experience and/or training;
or

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and two (2) years as a Bookkeeper I, and four (4) years of related governmental bookkeeping experience and/or training;
or

High school diploma or GED and six (6) years of governmental bookkeeping experience;
or

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

This is a part time, 32 hours per week, Teamsters Grade A3-F position, with a 2026 pay range of $28.09–$34.57 per hour. Starting pay is typically $28.09 per hour, DOE.
