Safety Specialist – Data Center

Reports To: Manager, Project Safety

Location: Port Washington, Wisconsin

Salary Range: $33.00/hour to $45.00/hour

The position primarily involves working on‑site at the project location or in an office setting. Travel frequency and duration vary depending on the role and project timeline. Compensation will be based on a combination of market location, knowledge, skills, education, and experience.

The Role

The Safety Specialist supports the Project Team in developing and sustaining an Incident and Injury Free Culture (IIFC). The role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations and assists Safety and Project leadership in maintaining a strong Project Safety Roadmap. The position reports to the assigned Project Safety Manager, Senior Project Safety Manager, or Area Safety Manager.

  • Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of safety programs through daily field walks and log observations in our leading indicator system.
  • Support the Safety team in executing project‑specific corrective action plans to address safety issues and concerns.
  • Provide feedback to Safety leadership on areas for safety improvement and recognition.
  • Coach employees exhibiting unsafe behaviors and recognize employees exhibiting safe behaviors.
  • Assist with job site‑specific safety orientations for new employees on the project.
  • Assist with basic safety training and testing for all employees (Haz Com, Fall Protection, Lockout/Tag‑out, etc.).
  • Support Project Leadership in completing incident investigations.
  • Assist in facilitating injury/illness cases.
  • Raise any potential compliance risks to Safety leadership.
  • Attend assigned safety meetings each morning:
    • Ensure meetings occur daily.
    • Evaluate crew participation and whether the foreman provided opportunity for involvement.
    • Evaluate meeting effectiveness and provide feedback to Safety leadership.
    • Evaluate or identify whether foreman, GF, and superintendents follow program elements for safety planning.
About You
  • Understanding of electrical industry consensus standards such as NFPA, NESC, ASTM, and ANSI.
  • Experience with union workforce desired.
  • Ability to develop solid relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Bi‑lingual desired.
Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying, along with possession of any required licences or certifications.

Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

Licensure/

Certifications:

OSHA 30 Construction required. CPR/FA Certified (Trainer Preferred). STS and STSC certification preferred, plus other safety certifications desired.

Experience: 0‑2 years of construction safety experience (electrical safety experience preferred). Relevant/related experience will be considered.

Driving Record: Valid state‑issued driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual proficiency preferred.

General Work Environment
  • Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, typing, carrying, pushing, and bending. Work occurs in both indoor office and outdoor construction job site settings with varying environmental conditions.
  • Ability to drive with a valid driver’s license and no restrictions at the project site.
  • Occasional work at heights, in confined spaces, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
