Overview

This position is responsible for operating and maintaining the Utility’s 4 MGD surface water treatment plant.

Responsibilities
  • This position requires that the individual become fully trained in all operations of the 4 MGD Surface Water Filtration Plant. Operates and maintains pumps, chemical feed equipment, process equipment, filters, SCADA system, and building facilities. This position works on a rotating shift.
  • Fills out daily plant record and turbidity monitoring sheets hourly
  • Checks and records chemical weight levels for coagulant, phosphate, fluoride, and carbon hourly
  • Tests turbidity and chlorine hourly
  • Performs chlorine contact time calculations hourly.
  • Performs lab work including the sampling of bacteria, pH, phosphate, and fluoride
  • Fills and monitors 3 elevated storage tank.
  • Backwashes filters as needed.
  • Follows job safety requirements in accordance with all State and Federal regulations. Participates in regular job safety meetings.
  • Collects samples, and prepares and submits required reports (lab results, water usage, etc.) to DNR, EPA, and PSC.
  • Must hold a Surface Water Grade 1 Certificate issued by the State of Wisconsin or the ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.
  • Has a thorough knowledge of current methods, materials, equipment, and techniques used in the operation and maintenance of a surface water treatment plant.
  • Has the ability to stand or sit for lengthy periods of time performing both lab and office work.
  • Able to work evenings, early mornings, or overnight as required
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply federal, state and local rules and regulations
  • Ability to make independent judgements and/or recommendations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to display initiative.
  • Ability to work rotating schedule
