Buyer
We are a leading, multi-state contract manufacturer seeking a skilled Buyer at our Port Washington facility. We are seeking a proactive Buyer to manage procurement activities for direct materials and components. The Buyer will be responsible for raising and managing purchase orders, controlling inventory levels, and ensuring supplier performance meets quality, delivery and cost targets. This role works closely with planning, production and quality teams to support Just In Time supply, control raw material flow and contribute to continuous improvement of sourcing and costing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Raise, process and track purchase orders in the ERP system, ensuring accuracy and timely submission to suppliers.
- Manage inventory levels to meet production requirements while minimizing excess stock; participate in demand planning and forecast reviews.
- Monitor and report on supplier performance (delivery, quality, lead times) and follow up on corrective actions with suppliers to drive improvements.
- Source and evaluate suppliers, maintain supplier records, and support onboarding and qualification processes for new suppliers.
- Negotiate pricing, lead times and terms with suppliers to achieve best total cost and service levels.
- Collaborate with production planning and operations to support Just In Time manufacturing and resolve material shortages or delivery issues.
- Ensure raw material specifications, certifications and documentation are collected and maintained according to quality and compliance requirements.
- Work with finance and costing teams to ensure accurate material costing and support cost reduction initiatives.
- Investigate and resolve purchase order discrepancies, claims and supplier invoicing issues.
- Support continuous improvement projects related to purchasing processes, supplier management and inventory optimization.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Supply Chain, Business, Logistics or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of purchasing/procurement experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
- Demonstrated experience and strong skills in supplier performance management, purchase order administration and inventory management (required).
- Proficiency with ERP systems and MS Excel for reporting and analysis.
- Strong negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Knowledge or experience in supplier management, raw material procurement, Just In Time manufacturing, costing and buying is highly desirable.
- Professional certifications such as CIPS, APICS/CPIM or equivalent are a plus.
