Public Works Department
JOB SUMMARYThis position performs technical duties in support of the public works division as well as customer service functions.
MAJOR DUTIES- Collects, sorts and distributes mail and performs a variety of other office duties.
- Handles telephone calls for Public Works which may include interaction with governmental agencies and the public.
- Files and retrieves documents, records, and reports and maintains the security and confidentiality of files and all departmental information.
- Creates work orders/service orders and assigns them to field staff.
- Close out work orders and service orders.
- Answers telephone and greet visitors; provides information and assistance.
- Types and proofread correspondence.
- Assists with all customer service inquiries.
- Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activity and conditions.
- Participates and attends all City sponsored training as required.
- Create Requestion Orders to ensure all operational invoices are submitted in a timely manner.
- Ensure day-to-day operations are completed and work directly with the Director & Superintendent on any and all tasks needed.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.

The Director of Public Works & Deputy City Manager will assign work in terms of general instructions as well as spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINESGuidelines include department policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORKThe work consists of administrative and customer service duties. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to provide technical support for the public works department. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of city operations.
Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city employees, customers, representatives of collections agencies, contractors, landowners, developers, vendors and members of the general public. Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, or to resolve problems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects and distinguishes between shades of color.
The work is typically performed in an office.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Knowledge and level of competency which are commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for two to four years.
- Completion of the University of Georgia's Carl Vinson Institute of Government's 15-hour mandated orientation training for city/county clerks within 12 months of employment.
- Completion of the Professional Administrative Certification of Excellence (PACE) within 12 months of employment.
- Completion of the University of Georgia's Carl Vinson Institute of Government's Finance Officer Certification Program Level I within 12 months of employment.
