Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Financial Program Supervisor, this position provides complex levels of accounting, auditing, and bookkeeping oversight for multiple programs and funding sources at the Columbia Correctional Institution (CCI). This position is responsible for providing program direction for purchasing, Persons In Our Care financial accounts, general financial accounts, store and canteen operations, audits and reviews of financial transactions—including cost allocation patterns—and ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, Department of Administration (DOA) policies, DOC accounting, internal controls, and procedures.

This role reconciles the Stores Inventory System to the department’s automated accounting system and actual physical counts, prepares highly complex documents and financial reports such as balance sheet, income statement, cash flow, and other reports for the institution canteen. It also maintains controls and prepares reports for the reconciliation of the institution’s major fixed assets inventory and accounts receivable. The position serves as lead worker for a Financial Specialist Senior, a Financial Specialist in the Business Office, and an Inventory Control Coordinator Advanced in the warehouse covering Stores Inventory and Canteen operations.

It has primary responsibility for the institution’s Risk Management insurance claims program.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule/range 02/15 with a starting pay rate of $30.47
/hour, plus excellent benefits. Pay on appointment for current state employees may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the Compensations Plan, Wisconsin Administrative Code, and statutes. A twelve‑month probationary period is required.

Job Details

Qualifications

Qualified applicants will have experience in the following:

  • Auditing invoices for accuracy against receiving reports, purchase orders, bids, and encumbrances, and processing payments using a computerized accounting system.
  • Leading, guiding, or coaching other staff (e.g., training, advising, reviewing work, problem solving).
  • Performing accounting practices and procedures, completing fiscal audits and reconciliations, and creating reports.
