Pharmaceutical Coating Process Operator

This role focuses on operating, monitoring, and improving a pharmaceutical coating process from start-up through shutdown. The Coating Scientist prepares and mixes solutions, runs coating and slitting equipment, performs in-process quality checks, and documents all activities in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The position offers opportunities to grow into manufacturing, engineering, or quality roles while working with a collaborative production team in a regulated environment.

• Set up, operate, monitor, and shut down the coating line in accordance with established procedures and batch records.
• Perform daily performance checks on required equipment, including scales, hold tanks, and other production equipment.
• Log rooms and equipment into and out of process in the required logbooks to maintain accurate and compliant records.
• Conduct in-process quality checks, including coat weight, moisture, thickness, and other critical parameters, and adjust processes as needed to maintain quality.
• Collect product and process samples as required for testing and documentation.
• Monitor the coating process continuously for quality, consistency, and adherence to specifications while the line is running.
• Maintain an organized, safe, and clean work area to support efficient and compliant operations.
• Package finished coated rolls according to specifications and prepare them for downstream processing or shipment.
• Accurately complete all required paperwork for the batch record, ensuring error-free and compliant documentation.
• Weigh raw materials precisely to meet all batch requirements and maintain accurate weighing records.
• Maintain error-free batch records and work with other personnel as needed to obtain required double signatures.
• Prepare batches of coating solution in accordance with instructions on the batch record, following wet chemistry and batch mixing procedures.
• Clean and sanitize tanks, hoses, fittings, and related equipment to meet production and quality requirements.
• Move tanks of solution into and out of the coating room as needed to support production schedules.
• Wash down the weighing and mixing rooms as required to maintain cleanliness and GMP compliance.
• Set up the slitter according to product specifications and safety requirements.
• Operate the slitter to convert coated rolls into slit rolls that meet dimensional and quality specifications.
• Complete the slitting section of the batch record and ensure all associated documentation is accurate and complete.
• Maintain and update slitting logbooks with all required operational and quality information.
• Package slit rolls into boxes, complete labels, and prepare tally sheets to support traceability and inventory control.
• Clean the slitting room and equipment after each batch to maintain a safe and compliant production environment.
• Use data analysis and basic mathematics to interpret process results, identify trends, and support problem solving.
• Collaborate with team members and other departments to resolve issues, improve processes, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

• High School Diploma
• Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing or closely related industries.
• Prior exposure to coating processes, slitting operations, or similar converting equipment.
• 1+ Years of Machine Operator Experience
• Experience with documentation practices in regulated environments, including batch records and logbooks.
• Comfort working with cleaning and sanitization procedures for production equipment and rooms.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portage, IN.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $27.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
