VITAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe staff member must meet or exceed expectations, of the following, within the 90 day probationary period:
- Interacts with health care professionals and provides necessary care.
- Cross-trains at all Outpatient Nursing Office locations (see above), in the Porter Starke network, to provide support as needed and deemed necessary by the nursing supervisor. Mileage reimbursement is available to staff who may be sent to assist at an alternate location.
- Demonstrates Pharmacology knowledge, including medication administration techniques and medication effects.
- Administers, logs, and documents in EMR, long-acting antipsychotic injections, per physician order.
- Organizes and manages samples, including contacting drug reps when samples are needed in the office.
- Answers and triages telephone calls and callbacks, as instructed by nursing supervisor and/or physician.
- Reviews and documents client response to medication and health status.
- Conducts record searches as requested by the treatment team or physician to obtain a history of medications and responses.
- Interacts with physicians, managed care and pharmacy to assist patients with obtaining medication.
- Organizes and manages patient assistance plans and necessary paperwork, for prescribed medications.
- Performs vitals such as height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, O2, temperature, waist circumference, etc.
- Performs any in office point of care testing and lab, such as urine and oral drug screens, lipid panel, Hemoglobin A1C, glucose, etc., as ordered by physician.
- Completes electronic medical record documentation as required.
- Reviews lab results and collaborates with physician to help facilitate appropriate follow up care for client.
- Assists with completion of DCS Psychotropic Medication forms, per physician and DCS protocol.
- Completes prior authorization forms (paper and electronic) for medication(s) prescribed by our agency.
- Maintains clinical records and logs for clinical area.
- Makes efficient use of work time to accomplish assignments as well as the ability to accept or respond to changes in the work environment in a way that promotes the organization’s goals and objectives. Willingly offers to assist other coworkers, during any free time, to help everyone complete assigned work, within each work day (this in turn, should be reciprocated).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
The staff member must demonstrate knowledge of:
- All medical policies and procedures specifically related to the various adult and children’s services provided in a community mental health facility.
- Safety regulations for the services of a community mental health facility.
- Crisis and emergency protocols as they apply to the various types of services provided by the organization.
- Basic first aid, infection control principles and public health requirements.
The staff member must demonstrate skills in:
- Signs and symptoms of psychiatric disorders.
- Interpersonal communication, problem-solving and organization.
- Handling crisis and medical emergencies.
- Interfacing and networking with outside contacts.
- Presenting information and responding to questions from individuals and groups of clients, customers, co-workers and the general public.
- Typing and basic computer usage, including Excel and Word.
- Trains and continuously evaluates staff on medication policies and procedures.
- Completes medical staff peer reviews, as assigned.
- Coordinates medication reviews and staffings with agency physicians.
- Develops techniques and supervises clients to assure medication compliance when judged necessary by the treatment team.
