Tetra Tech is seeking an experienced Staff Scientist for ongoing projects in the Portage, MI office. The role requires at least 4 years of environmental monitoring and remediation experience and involves subsurface investigations, soil and groundwater remediation design and implementation, hydrogeological studies, wetland and ecological surveys, environmental compliance support, waste management, construction and demolition oversight, due‑diligence support, and long‑term groundwater monitoring programs.
EssentialJob Functions
- Performing soil and groundwater sampling, vapor intrusion sampling (soil gas, subslab and indoor air) activities at various environmental project sites throughout the Midwest (primarily in Michigan).
- Performing environmental assessments and site inspections.
- Assisting with field implementation and oversight of subcontractors on construction/remediation projects.
- Completing daily field reports to summarize activities completed.
- Complying with and leading field Health and Safety protocols.
- Assisting with the preparation of work plans, remediation designs, data evaluation and reports, including preparation of text, charts, and figures.
- Completing laboratory analytical data validation.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, chemistry, or related discipline.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in environmental monitoring and remediation projects.
- Current OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER certification.
- Excellent technical abilities, communication, organization skills, and good technical writing skills.
- Familiarity with MS Office Suite.
- Experience with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and/or CAD.
- A pre‑employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
- Advanced degree and professional certifications desirable.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment weighing 50 lb in variable weather and terrain.
- Ability to travel and perform field work/oversight as required (approximately 25–50 % required).
- Ability to walk across variable terrain, including uneven ground, in all weather conditions (extreme hot/cold temperatures, loud noises, bugs, etc.).
- Have full range of motion to support field activities (ability to stand, bend, kneel, and reach during field activities).
- Field work will include outdoor activities subject to weather, terrain, noise, etc., possibly requiring PPE and extended periods of standing, walking, bending, lifting, and sitting for site assessments, sampling, oversight, and other field activities.
- Office work will include extended periods sitting or standing at a desk using a computer and other office equipment.
- Full‑time, Monday through Friday work schedule (40 hours). Occasionally extended hours may be required based on project and/or client needs.
- Work will be performed in a field and office setting.
